1. Lin Tai-yu,the granddaughter of the Lady Dowager of the distinguished Chia family,was the cousin of Chia Pao-yu.Because Yai-yu’s mother had died and there was no one to bring her up,,her grandmother arranged to bring the girl to live wither at the Jungkuo Compound in the capital.Pao-yu and Tai-yu became inseparable companions,playing together from morning till night.
2. Because of the magnificence of her gradmother’s family and the many relatives who were gossipy and meddlesome,Tai-yu watched her new home and weighed every word,so she would not be laugfed at for any foolish blunder.When she was alone,she often shed tears into the wind and sughed facing the moon.Her poor health became even worse.

Tai-yu would have written more but her whole body was afire,and her face burning.Going to the mirror,she saw that her cheeks were red.Still clasping the handkerchiefs,she went to bed and became lost in thought.”Thought Pao-yu and I are mutually attracted to each other,the two aunts show no interest in a match between us.And grandmother now does not love me as deeply as before.Who will decide my marriage,the most important event in my life?”
7.
